On August 23rd, sixty-eight northern seniors from Inuvik, Yellowknife, Fort Smith, Hay River, Norman Wells and Fort Simpson will depart for Brockville, Ontario to participate in the Canada 55+ Games. The Games are held every two years and are intended to provide seniors with an opportunity to compete at the national level and take part in a number of athletic and other pursuits as well as to socialize, enjoy local entertainment and renew friendships with the other 1,500 participants. Events this year include Swimming, Track and Field, 5 Pin Bowling, Darts, Mini Marathon, Fishing, Scrabble, Cribbage, Bridge, Hockey, Curling and many others. Following in his son's footsteps from the Winter Olympics, Walter Gretzky will light the cauldron at the Games.
