KidSport NWT and Sport North are excited to announce that the agreement with the Petersen & Auger Golf Tournament has been extended for another 5 years.

The Petersen & Auger Golf Tournament is one of the longest running golf tournaments at the Yellowknife Golf Club, with 2018 marking the 66th year of existence.  Originally ran as a club tournament, the Petersen & Auger tournament changed format to be a charity event a number of years ago.  KidSport NWT has been the charity of choice for the P&A Tournament for three years.

"I am very happy to extend our agreement with Sport North for another 5 years, and would like to thank Doug, Bill, and the rest of their team for making this tournament the success that it is." says Roger Walker, Owner of Petersen & Auger.  The tournament was organized in partnership with the Aboriginal Sport Circle and the Sport North Federation for those three years, with the most recent year raising just over $29,000 for KidSport NWT.

"KidSport believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sport, and KidSport does what we can to provide financial support to families to remove the cost barriers that may prevent kids from playing a season of organized sport." says KidSport NWT Coordinator, Kendra Wambold.

KidSport has been present in the NWT since 2001 and has distributed over $315,000 to over 2,500 kids across the territory. "Success of the program is measured by the number of children who have been helped through the program, and we're always working on ways to ensure kids who need our support have the knowledge of the program, whether that be through a teacher, coach, social worker, or recreation director." explained, Kendra.

The extension of the agreement with Petersen & Auger will ensure that kids across the Territory are able to play organized sport, attend the Arctic Winter Games, and gain skills that help to set them up to succeed in life.
