Arctic X Games a Go!

November 6, 2014 (Yellowknife, NT) - NWTASSA is pleased to learn that Whitehorse has agreed to host the 2016 Arctic X Games.  The announcement was made in the NWT Legislative Assembly last week by Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C McLeod.
 
Speed skating is one of the sports that was eliminated from the 2016 AWG in Nuuk, Greenland due to a lack of facilities.  The Arctic X Games will be an exciting games with full participation from speed skating, figure skating, dog mushing, gymnastics, curling and midget hockey.  NWTASSA is committed to training and sending a full team of skaters to this exciting event in March 2016.
 
Minister McLeod also pledged government support for these games. “The department is committed to work with the territorial sport organizations and the Sport North Federation to prepare and send athletes to the Arctic Winter Games in Nuuk, Greenland, and the Arctic X Games in Whitehorse, Yukon, in March of 2016.”
 
Shortly, NWTASSA will be forming a list of potential skaters for this exciting event and is looking forward to a fun and successful experience for our team.
