Austin Competes At the Canadian Junior Short Track Champs

January 21st, 2014 (Montreal, QC) - Yellowknife Speed Skating Club alumni, Simon Austin competed in the Canadian Junior Short Track Championships in Montreal this past weekend. The Canadian Junior Championships are held each year to determine who among the top 32 Juniors in the country will represent Canada at the World Junior Championships.  This year the World Championships will be held in Turkey.

This is Simon’s first year competing in this competition, as last year he was seeded in the first alternate position. Traditionally strong in the 500m, Simon was true to form, posting his best result of the competition, 17th overall. In the longer races, the 1000m and 1500m, Simon placed 25th overall.

Simon presently lives in Calgary where he trains in Speed Skating Canada’s Olympic Oval program.
