CANADA GAMES COUNCIL ANNOUNCES UPDATED AGE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR NIAGARA 2022 CANADA SUMMER GAMES

November 25, 2020 (Niagara, ON) – The Canada Games Council announced today new age eligibility requirements for the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.

Originally scheduled for 2021, the Canada Summer Games in Niagara had to be postponed as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and will now take place August 6-21, 2022. This national celebration of amateur sport will bring more than 5,000 athletes and 4,000 volunteers to the Niagara Region.

Where practical, sports have adjusted their age categories so that the same cohort of athletes that was eligible for the Games in 2021 will remain eligible for the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.

Approved age categories for sports on the 2022 Canada Games program can be found here: https://niagara2022games.ca/news/article/age-categories-for-the-niagara-2022-canada-summer-games/

Age eligibility for baseball, cycling, golf and rugby sevens will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The Canada Games Council has worked collaboratively with all affected National Sport Organizations to review each sport’s athlete eligibility rules for 2022. Age categories are uniquely selected for each individual sport. This is to ensure the goal of developing Canada’s next generation of national team athletes is met, and that it happens in conjunction with the Long Term Development Model (LTD) and is approved by the Canada Games Sport Committee.
