Inuvik Speed Skaters Looking Strong

Yellowknife, NT (November 22nd, 2013) - The Inuvik Speed Skating Club is working hard toward the Arctic Winter Games Territorial Trials in January hoping to place several skaters on Team NWT. NWTASSA coach David Gilday was in Inuvik from November 14th-17th running a training and technique camp, which was a huge success.

Club coordinator Theresa Ross secured extra ice time while David was in town in order to maximize her athletes’ training time. The kids were on the ice six times over the course of the four days and made major progress on the technical side of things. They also pushed through fatigue from the extra training – something that will help them when it comes to the day-after-day competition at the Arctic Winter Games.

According to David, the Inuvik Club has several promising skaters who will definitely challenge the other communities during the Territorial Trials. He is excited that the work of coaches Paul MacDonald and Theresa Ross will pay off in January. “Theresa and Paul are doing a terrific job with the program in Inuvik. The kids are looking stronger and more technically proficient each time I see them”.

In December,  similar development camps will be held in Norman Wells and Fort Simpson while the Hay River Speed Skating Club has already held their camp.
