The Union of Northern Workers (UNW) Local 19 surprised KidSport™ NWT with a $1,000 donation that quickly turned into a $3,000 donation to help kids get involved in sport.

The UNW Local 19, representing workers at the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) in the Beaufort Delta and Sahtu Regions, passed a motion to donate $1,000 to KidSport NWT. The surprise did not stop there as the NTPC Staff Association (funded by both Union & Management) along with NTPC Managment matched the $1,000 donation from the Union and presented KidSport™ NWT with a $3,000 total donation. "This program is a very, very worthy cause, helping children should be everyone's priority" stated UNW Local 19 President, Denis Rivard, after receiving the matching donations from both the NTPC Staff Association and NTPC Management.

"It is the great generosity of employees and companies like NTPC that make the connections with kids and sport that much greater in our communities. It was a wonderful surprise and will help local kids who cannot afford sport, to get into sport!" commented KidSport™ NWT Coordinator, Melanie Kornacki. The donation will be dedicated to help remove financial barriers for kids in the Beaufort Delta and Sahtu region to access a season of sport.
