NWTASSA Announces their Coaches for the AWG Speed Skating Team

Yellowknife, NT (November 21st, 2013) - The Northwest Territories Amateur Speed Skating Association is pleased to announce their coaches for the Arctic Winter Games to take place in Fairbanks, AK in March, 2014. Val Gendron, from Fort Simpson, and Shane Clark, from Yellowknife form the coaching team.

Val brings years of experience with youth sports in Fort Simpson and was the recipient of the Delma Kisoun Memorial Community Coordinator Award in 2013. She has been the head coach of the Fort Simpson Speed Skating Club for the past 15 years.

Shane is the head coach of the Yellowknife Speed Skating Club and has several Arctic Winter Games and one Canada Winter Games under his belt. He was the recipient of Sport North’s Coach of the Year Award in 2011.

The AWG Speed Skating Territorial Trials will be held in Yellowknife on January 24th and 25th, 2014. NWTASSA is anticipating a strong team consisting of speed skaters from several NWT communities.
