The Yellowknife Ski Club takes part in fourth annual RBC Sports Day in Canada

Yellowknife NT (November 27, 2013) – To mark this year’s RBC Sports Day in Canada, a national celebration of sport, from grassroots to high‐performance levels, the Yellowknife Ski Club is hosting the first Tour de Yellowknife Ski Race of the season on November 30, 2013.  As well most programs will be in full swing from Jackrabbits to Biathlon to Track Attack.

RBC Sports Day in Canada, on Saturday, November 30, demonstrates that sport has the power to build community and promote healthy, active living. RBC Sports Day in Canada caps off a week of more than 1,500 events and activities nationwide, such as community festivals, try-it days, open houses, games, competitions, meet-and-greets, tournaments, fun runs, spectator events and pep rallies, and includes a special broadcast on CBC Television.

The inaugural Tour de Yellowknife offers cross-country ski race opportunities to participants of all experience levels in classic and free technique. All events will be held at the Yellowknife Ski Club and are open to participants ages 8 and up. There is no cost to participate.

“The emphasis of the series is on fun, learning to race and providing race officials experience in a variety of events” said Tim Ensom, Coach and Race Coordinator.  “It’s great that we can include this first race in the Sports Day in Canada.”

“The Yellowknife Ski Club is proud of its tradition of quality ski and biathlon programs and events for the community” said John Stephenson, President.  “Sport is an important part of the fabric of every community. It’s part of what knits us together.”

Sports Day at the Yellowknife Ski Club is also supported by a grant from the NWT Get Active Program. The Yellowknife Ski Club was featured on CBC Sports Weekend on November 3. http://www.cccski.com/Membership/True-Sport-Principles/Yellowknife-Ski-Club-profiled-on-CBC-as-one-of-the.aspx.
