Sport North Hosts Annual General Meeting and Celebrates Achievements at Awards Banquet
Yellowknife, NT –June 3rd, 2024 – Sport North is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on May 25th at the Chateau Nova and later that night the Sport North Awards Banquet, held at the Explorer Hotel. Both events were a resounding success, bringing together athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters from across the Northwest Territories to celebrate the remarkable achievements in sport over the past year.
The AGM provided an essential platform for discussing the strategic direction of Sport North and ensuring that the organization continues to foster and develop athletic talent in the Northwest Territories. Key agenda items included the election of board members, financial reports, and presentations and sessions aimed at enhancing the support and resources available to athletes and Territorial Sport Organizations.
“Sport North remains committed to nurturing the athletic prowess and sportsmanship of our community,” said Colin Pybus, President of Sport North. “Our AGM is an opportunity to reflect on our achievements and set ambitious goals for the future. We are incredibly proud of the progress we've made and the talent we've supported.”
We had the honor of having Adam Kreek, Canadian Olympic gold medalist in rowing, speak at our AGM. Renowned for his 2008 Beijing Olympics victory and his audacious 2013 attempt to row across the Atlantic Ocean, Kreek captivated the audience with his insights on athletic excellence. He emphasized resilience, teamwork, and mental toughness, sharing strategies honed from his elite rowing career and subsequent work as a motivational speaker and coach. Kreek’s inspiring talk encouraged our Territorial Sport Organization’s volunteers and professionals to apply these principles to achieve peak performance.
Following the AGM, the Awards Banquet honoured outstanding individuals and teams who have excelled in their respective sports. The event celebrated not only the athletes but also the dedicated coaches, officials, and volunteers whose contributions are vital to the success of sports in the Northwest Territories.
