Team NWT Captures 16 Medals at the Canada 55+ Games

August 31, 2014 (Strathcona, AB) - Led by Joan Hiron's four Gold medals in Swimming; Team NWT took home 10 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals at the Canada 55+ Games in Strathcona County, AB. Other multiple medal winners in Swimming were Edna Woodward of Fort Smith and Chris Williams of Yellowknife. Mary Pat Short won a Silver Medal in Predicted Swimming.

Yellowknife's Bowlers Robert Winter & Helena Haener won Gold and Silver respectively in the singles event. Hay River's Nancy Makepeace rode to a Silver medal in the Cycling event & Helen Adlem got Darts on the board with a Bronze.

Team NWT Director Joan Hirons would like to Thank the Strathcona County Host Society for their effort in making this a tremendous experience for Team NWT.

The Strathcona County Games was the largest in Canada 55+ Games history featuring over 2400 competitors. Team NWT was comprised of 62 participants competing in 12 events.
