NWT Sport Hall of Fame

How it Started

The NWT Sport Hall of Fame was created to celebrate NWT athletes and sport builders who attained a high level of excellence and brought recognition and honour to the Northwest Territories.

Through the NWT Sport Hall of Fame, Sport North recognizes and shares the sport stories of the territories’ great athletes, builders and teams. Their stories will be celebrated and showcased to continue to inspire NWT youth to live healthy active lives and set their goals high.

It is through the recognition and promotion of sport that we can demonstrate the great achievements of our outstanding sport contributors of the Northwest Territories and will be able to communicate these great stories for years to come. If you know an individual or a team that fits into these categories, and deserves to be honored and recognized for their achievements in sport, nominate them today!

Nominations are due September 15th each year!

Nomination Form

A. The Selection Process:

Nominations for Induction in the following calendar year are accepted until September 15.

Any individual of association may submit a nomination with the following exceptions:

  • A current Member of the NWT Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee may not submit a nomination.

  • A Member of the Sport North Board of Directors may submit a nomination but if the Director submits a nomination, that Director may not vote on that nomination if and when it is brought to the Board of Directors for approval.

  • Each nomination is eligible for three (3) consecutive years. If at the end of the three (3) consecutive years of eligibility, a nomination has not been selected for induction, the nomination must sit inactive for a period of one (1) year after which the nomination can be resubmitted.

  • All nominations will be considered at an initial Selection Committee meeting at the beginning of October. Depending on the outcome of that process, further information on the nomination may be required. The final selection process will take place at the beginning of November and the names will be released to the media in November.
