Canada Summer Games 2021 postponed!

Publication date:
September 16th, 2020

We are very sorry to announce that the Canada Summer Games will be postponed to 2022

Some key points from the Canada Games Council:

-The Canada Games Council and the 2021 Canada Games Host Society made the difficult decision to postpone the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games due to continued public health concerns relating to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic

- Given the uncertainty created by the ongoing pandemic, the decision to postpone the Games was made, first and foremost, to ensure the health and safety of all the participants and spectators expected to attend the Games in Niagara

- The COVID-19 pandemic would have likely prevented us from hosting the Games next year in the way that they were originally envisioned, and significantly hindered our ability to deliver an extraordinary Games experience for all

- Thus, by postponing the Games to the summer of 2022, we will be able to better protect the health and safety of all the participants and spectators, and also deliver a Canada Games that will provide a phenomenal experience for all

- While we are targeting for the rescheduled Games to take place in the summer of 2022, presently, no decision has been made yet on the new dates for the Canada Summer Games in Niagara. More consultation and discussion is needed before an official decision can be made

- We are working with our sport partners on important issues around athlete eligibility and team selections. As of right now, no decisions have been made yet on adjustments to athlete eligibility rules, including age categories

- The CGC Sport Committee, in consultation with Provincial/Territorial governments and National Sport

Organizations will be reviewing the eligibility requirements of the athletes to determine whether or not adjustments are necessary
