Ending the Season With Big Wins

April 7, 2014 (Yellowknife, NT) - Coming off the Olympic trials, Molly Milligan finished her season with four more competitions, leading to a very strong season and a big push at the end of the season. Milligan finished the season with back to back wins!

Milligan started March off travelling back to Austria for a World Cup in Kreischberg, a small resort about 2 hours West of Vienna. The hill had had a pretty bad snow year, AND was experiencing very warm weather, the competitiors were riding a slushy, bumpy course everyday, adding to the already challenging design of the jumps/rails. So, although Milligan rode strong throughout the practice days, and had a good run down, the conditions got the best of her and she didn't score high enough to make finals. Milligan was frustrated with the course, but happy she was able to ride away healthy.

After Austria, Milligan headed back to Whistler to compete in the annual Showcase Showdown. The Showcase Showdown involved two events, a Slopestyle and a Big Air (just one jump) and all the competitiors battled wind, fog, snow and rain throughout the weekend. Milligan placed 4th in the Slopestyle and 3rd in the Big Air.

Next up was the Nationals in Calgary, a slopestyle event taking place at Canada Olympic Park. The jumps were quite big (and burly), with short landings and harsh knuckles. In a nutshell, you don't want to overshoot, and you don't want to undershoot. Milligan made sure she had her speed down, figured out her spins, and even had time in practice to hike the rails in the course. She was doing something right, because she ended up placing 1st at the end of the day, taking home the National Champion crown!

Milligan's final competition of the season was the Dew Tour Am Series that took place just this past weekend (March 29-30, 2014) at Sun Peaks Resort. Having just come from Nationals, Milligan was expecting a course with jumps similar in size, but the jumps were significantly smaller. Milligan put down a run that was very solid, "I was very happy with my run, but I really wasn't sure how I would place because other girls were doing more technical tricks, albeit not as refined. I can honestly say that I was very surprised to be announced the winner of this contest too. WOW. What an amazing couple of weeks" stated Milligan

Despite having not made the Olympics this year, Milligan is very happy with her training and how everything has started to come together. "I'm feeling strong, healthy, and more confident then ever!" stated Milligan. I guess we can only wait and see what the next season has in store for Molly Milligan.
