NWTVA Announces Team NT Volleyball Coaching Staff for the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games

Yellowknife, September 24, 2018 – The NWT Volleyball Association (NWTVA) is pleased to announce the Coaching Staff for the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Volleyball teams representing Team NT at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current, SK.

Team NT’s Indoor Volleyball Coaching Staff is filled with exceptional coaches and many years of experience. Both Mathison and Horn have previously coached Team NT at Games and their knowledge moving forward will help develop our athletes to be prepared for the Games in Swift Current.

Mathison (Jeannie) is the founder and Head Coach of Crush Volleyball Club, 15U/16U Men’s Team. Mathison has previously coached Team NT women’s teams at the 2003 WCSG, 2004 AWG, 2005 CSG and 2011 WCSG. She has led the Crush Volleyball Club to two National appearances in the past two years.

Mathison (Mike) works alongside Jeannie Mathison, as Assistant Coach of the Crush Volleyball Club. His experience as a player and coach will provide our Men’s team with the drive to step to the next level. Mathison has continued to give back to his community by coaching at Junior Spike It since 2014.

Horn was the Head Coach of the Men’s Volleyball team that captured silver at the 2018 Arctic Winter Games in Hay River earlier this year. This year Horn will be actively coaching with the Potential Volleyball Club in Yellowknife, as Head Coach of the 16U Women’s team.

Thompson started his coaching career in the North with the Crush Volleyball Club. He has been an assistant coach with the club for the past two seasons. He previously coached Team NT’s Men’s Volleyball team at the 2017 North American Indigenous Games in Toronto, ON. He will be joining Horn with the Potential Volleyball Club, taking the role as Assistant Coach for the 16U Women’s team.

Team NT Indoor Volleyball teams will be participating at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current, SK from August 13-18. The Volleyball venue will be hosted in the Innovation Credit Union Iplex in Swift Current. NWTVA will be announcing selection camps for the teams in the coming weeks.
