DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

9:00 -10:30 am
Introduction to Creating Inclusive Sport for 2SLGBTQ+ Youth

Learning how to create 2SLGBTQ-inclusive spaces is a long process, but consider taking this workshop as a first-step! This session will introduce people to the wide breadth of experiences that 2SLGBTQ+ youth might have in sport, and will focus on the importance of 2SLGBTQ-affirming language, mentorship and coaching. We'll discuss some tools and strategies for talking to parents, athletes, coaches and others who might not have the same interest in 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion as you do, and talk through some potential scenarios you might have to navigate.
The following Form is a pre-training survey that is used by the Presenter for inclusion training, it is not sport specific, but it will provide you with an opportunity to share what questions you might have in the lead up to this session.

A Path to Reconciliation in Sport

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) is the home of all the documents, photographs, and statements collected by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Over the course of the presentation, participants will learn about the history of residential schools and the residential school experience with a focus on sports and athletic achievement. Additionally, participants will learn about reconciliation, barriers to achieving it, and the Calls to Action specific to sports (87-91). Finally, participants will come away with some ideas of how to address reconciliation as an individual as well as in sport whether as a coach, volunteer, or supporter.

Presenter
National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR)

Kaila Johnston is the Supervisor of Education, Outreach, and Public Programming at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR). 1:30 - 2:45 pm
Safe Sport: A Common Goal, a Shared Responsibility - Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC)

As the SDRCC works to establish an independent safe sport mechanism through which sport participants can confidently report inappropriate behavior, it remains paramount that members of the sport community, at all levels, recognize their role in fostering a safe and welcoming sport culture. This presentation will aim to inform attendees of recent developments in the safe sport realm, cultivate a stronger understanding of the mechanism’s role and impact, and address concerns around the implementation of the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) at all levels of the federated sport system.

Presenters:

Marie-Claude Asselin, Chief Executive Officer, SDRCC
Lidia Touch Koh, Education and Partnership Coordinator, SDRCC
Kirsten Whelan, Safe Sport Coordinator, SDRCC
