Brennan, 16, scored 32.86 points to win the level four category ahead of Alaska duo Gwendolynn Cheney (26.80) and Kaitlyn Joseph (24.48).

Level four is the most technically sophisticated of the four levels offered at the Arctic Winter Games. Brennan won two gold medals in level three at the Fort McMurray edition of the games last year.

"You just have to show your best. Everyone can do anything," she said after Wednesday's win. She has a chance at a second gold ulu in the free skate on Thursday.

"I’m still nervous for tomorrow’s [long program], but this has made me feel better going into the rest of the week. I’m hoping for the same result," Brennan said.

"Today has really helped me get comfortable on the ice, and I think tomorrow is going to go well for me.

"I’m feeling really good and really happy with the result."

Among other NWT figure skating results, Miah Harris finished in the bronze-ulu position among the three skaters contesting this year's level three short program.

Morgan Kramers was fifth, Niobe Clinton eighth and Keira Clinton 11th in the level two short program. Solenn Kikoak was eighth, Kelly Duculan ninth and Brooke Durnford 12th in level one.
