2024 Arctic Winter Games Mission Staff

What you need to know before you apply:

  • The Games are in Mat-Su, Alaska, March 10-16, 2024.
  • You must have a valid passport to attend.
  • You must provide a VSC.
  • Review the Mission Staff Responsibilities.  
  • The submission deadline is November 10, 2023

Application

Once you start the application process it cannot be saved, please have the following information available before you begin:

  • Current email, phone number, mailing address.
  • Copy of your valid class 5 driver’s license, as it must be uploaded.
  • Copy of your current passport, or a copy of the receipt & file number from the Government of Canada demonstrating that you have submitted your application for a new/renewal passport, as it must be uploaded.
  • Volunteer and games experience/participation.
  • Current VSC (must be dated within 6 months of the start of the games), as it must be uploaded.
  • 2 Reference Letters.  They can be from your Territorial Sport Organization, colleague, employer, volunteer organization.  However, both letters cannot be from the same person/organization.  Both letters will need to be uploaded individually.
  • Letter from your employer confirming you have the required leave approved, as it must be uploaded.

2024 ARCTIC WINTER GAMES

Mission Staff Responsibilities

Pre-Games Responsibilities

  1. Participate / attend planning meetings prior to games.
  2. Assist with equipment, clothing, luggage, or other sorting, shipping, and processing.
  3. Work with coaches to ensure their team requirements are fulfilled, such as but not limited to payments, signed waivers, photos, etc.

At Games Responsibilities

 

  1. Ensure that “logistical details” for your designated sport(s) / assignment are sufficiently in place so that participants can concentrate on their competition and experience at the Games.
  2. .Attend daily Mission Staff meetings.
  3. Support all NT teams by attending competitions.
  4. Perform mission desk duty as assigned.
  5. Assist coaches and managers with administrative details and communicate with them all matters related to Games’ policies and procedures.
  6. Assist coach/manager with protest procedures if required.
  7. Participate in disciplinary procedures where required.
  8. Communicate all Team NT functions to assigned sport daily (receptions, awards, etc.).
  9. Handle any emergency situations arising.
  10. Chaperone/supervise athletes’ social.
  11. Participate in room checks at the athletes’ village.
  12. Assist with travel.
  13. Marshal athletes during opening/closing ceremonies.
  14. Respond to requests in a timely manner.
  15. Perform any other duties as assigned by Chef de Mission.

Post-Games Responsibilities

 

  1. Attend a wrap-up meeting / conference call for evaluation.
  2. Submit or voice recommendations.
  3. Follow up on any matters with the sport resulting from the Games.
  4. Complete duties as assigned by Chef de Mission.
